I couldn’t quite put my finger on why Mail was so bad in Windows 8. Luckily, Jon Brodkin has spelled it out succinctly here. It’s just too stripped down to really appreciate your mail. I find myself constantly pulling out my Windows Phone.

John Gruber: My advice to Microsoft would be to go after Android, hard. Make Windows Phone the carriers’ best friend. Target your advertising on BlackBerry holdouts and dissatisfied Android users. Position Windows Phone as the alternative to the iPhone.
